1989년 11월 10일 발표한 싱글 'We Didn't Start The Fire'는 1950년대부터 세계 주요 역사와 정치적 인물을 언급한 노래로 미국 역사 교과서에도 채택되는 등 성원을 받기도 하였습니다.
또한 이 노래 가사에서는 남한, 북한, 이승만, 판문점 등이 언급돼 국내에서도 많은 인기를 얻기도 하였습니다.
1949년부터 1989년까지 미국과 세계의 근현대사 핵심용어들로 가사가 이루어져 있습니다.
노래 제목 중 the fire의 의미는 전쟁의 의미로도 볼수도 있지만
갈등(conflict)의 의미로 보는편이 가사를 해석하는데 많은 도움이 되리라고 봅니다.
즉 갈등은 언제나 있어왔다. 우리가 갈등을 일으키진 않았다. 그리고 갈등은 계속해서,,,,
오해에서 비롯된 여러해에 걸친 우리의 갈등이 해소되길 바라면서 다시 한번 이 글을 올려봅니다.
